Liquid to Liquid Separators

Liquid to Liquid separators & coalescers for vertical and horizontal vessels

Costacurta’s quality design and engineering expertise gained over many years involvement in the oil, petrochemical and chemical industries provides a sound basis for selection and process design of an extensive range of separators, mist eliminators, coalescers and distributors.

This range of liquid-liquid separators & coalescers are for installation in horizontal or vertical vessels to increase the efficiency of separation between two liquid phases that are unable to mix.

Through continued cooperation with university research institutes Costacurta is able to develop fluid-dynamic studies for the optimization of design, sizing and performance.

VICO-Pack – Sloped plate coalescers are effective for the separation of droplets usually greater than 30 microns, widely used in onshore and offshore extraction and treatment plants for natural gas and oil.

VICO-Tex® coalescers made from several layers of special crinkled wire mesh arranged to give a coalescent effect cellular structure. Main function is to favour an increase in droplet size of a liquid phase dispersed in another continuous phase that cannot be mixed with the former. The droplets enlarged by VICO-Tex® coalescers can then easily be separated by gravity in the settling zone downstream of the coalescer. VICO-Tex® coalescers are effective for enlarging droplets of a diameter of less than 30 microns.

Gas–liquid distributors and flow equalizers

Vane feed inlet distributors – Gas-liquid vane feed inlet distributors are made of specially shaped vanes, which are appropriately sized to break up the vapour stream entering a vessel into a number of partial streams. They thus enable pre-separation of the liquid present in the gas and, above all, an even distribution of the gas over all the vessel section. Installing a vane feed inlet distributor normally reduces the space needed for even distribution of the gas.

VICO-Straightners   Are made up of specially designed parallel vanes to break up the vapour stream passing through them into a number of partial streams. They thus give pre-separation of the liquid present in the gas and, above all, an even distribution of the gas over all the vessel section reserved for the latter. They also act on the surface of the liquid by removing foam and breaking waves. They are normally installed in horizontal vessels in the presence of at least one liquid and one vapour phase. They are positioned between the VICO-Pack sloped plate coalescer (if present) and the droplet separator (VICO-Vane or VICO-Spin) under the gas outlet nozzle.

Materials most frequently used in construction of the above are stainless steels and some special alloys such as Monel, Inconel, Incoloy, Hastelloy and Carpenter 20 and pure Titanium.
